The basic idea behind how this contraption works, is that the pedals drive the bellows to intake air and to also pull/push in fuel. A bow-like spring will keep the bellows closed for part of the pedaling, allowing ignition to occur without risk of the explosion going back into the bellows.

Upon the underside of the sealing rod is a flint, which strikes a steel inside the chamber to cause ignition via sparks.
